Weekend with babies

Last weekend was a long one that included a national holiday. Best time to leave the crowded cities.

Well we couldn’t – as many families. So we packed our weekend with baby photography sessions. Check them out here:

Nora

Nora is so young that everything is new to her – even checking her own shoes is interesting! I had the same experience – every moment with her and her family I could find something new and interesting worth to capture.

Compelling sunset

One more part from the Mimi session.
We were discussing possible locations for outdoor pictures and selected the seaside with sunset. Can’t go wrong.
We were just shooting and shooting till it was to cold to continue…

DIY Studio

Mimi – a Swedish opera singer – has asked for some portrait pictures. We were in Herrang, that is a small village in Sweden.
All I could use were big tents with white walls (and some flashes). Having the wall close we had a white background, having it far away we had a black background. Was fine except the midges.
Me and my girlfriend mad some test shots to be well prepared. So was Mimi having beautiful dress & make-up!
However imagine the situation. You are in Herrang, during summer in a dance camp. Everybody is wearing almost jogging suit because of dance classes. And a beautiful girl wearing costume walk through the village. Was a really surreal and funny situation.

Stealth mode

Sometimes you have to be in stealth mode – even on a concert.
Taking pictures of a rock concert is easy – you can be loud, you can run around – just try to survive the crazy fans :)
What about being in a small room (less than 100 sqm), where you have unplugged opera singers? The smallest noise might ruin the concert and mood.
What to do? I had to use the clapping moments. Still could catch some great moments.

Weather report

Fresh weather report from Budapest, Hungary
It is snowing. It was snowing. A lot!

Frightening

The world is full of frightening stuff that makes us cry.
At least when we are really young. That is not so good during baby photography.
Every time a have a baby photo session I feel challenged as I have a deep voice and a beard – seems not the best combination. However in the last months only thing I received was smile. Lots of.
I can prove it with these pics!

Experiment with light

It is not the first time I used this trick but now I spent lots of time experimenting.
How it works? You need some light sources out of focus. And a shape cut of a paper. You put this paper with the small hole on it in front of the lens – and that’s all. It is a trick that is known for ages, I’ve seen examples of this from the second world war.

A good question

To capture the real personality of your model you need a good question.
It makes him / her thinking and all the layers that could hide him / her just disappear. Of course you have to have some general understanding to find that question. Like you know it before the whole photo session starts – or you have 10 minutes to find it out. Challenging but lovely moments.
However that question do not have to be a sentence. Objects can be really good questions – what the model will do with that object. That night the bean bag was a perfect question – so it was easy to record the perfect answers!

Go for sure

Capturing a whole family with children is not an easy task…
You have to go sure. Find a date when every one of them is free. And not sick. Wait they are tired enough but not too tired.
Sounds impossible, right?
One more thing! Find something that is interesting for all of them. And here my secret weapon: the beanbag!
