Concert

Stealth mode

Sometimes you have to be in stealth mode – even on a concert.
Taking pictures of a rock concert is easy – you can be loud, you can run around – just try to survive the crazy fans :)
What about being in a small room (less than 100 sqm), where you have unplugged opera singers? The smallest noise might ruin the concert and mood.
What to do? I had to use the clapping moments. Still could catch some great moments.

Dreams and reality

Way too many times reality just does not match your dreams…
Hot Jazz Band just turned 25 years old. I’m lucky to have a favorite band existing so long.
I was less lucky with the building. Palace of Art is a very strict place – meaning you cannot go to places where you can make a good photo from. Lighting was fine however killed the environment: these photos could be made in any concert halls. So this amazing hall with a great band gives you “nothing special” pictures. In my dream it was a bit different!

VII. Siófoki New Orleans Jazz Festival

Four Jazz band in a row!
As the floor wasn’t appropriate for dancing I was rather taking pictures.
Luckily I know most of the musicians that helped me having some extra eye contacts.

LLX 2010 Bands

We were lucky as we had live music every night. Small bands & big band as well!
Well, I was not so lucky. We had small lights & no lights. Still I have some pics for you!

Bohém Ragtime & Jazz Festival 2010

For the 19th occasion lovers of ragtime & jazz music came together for a long weekend in the center of Kecskemét.
Both the musicians & listeners come from many different countries. Also to reach more people the event has some additional concerts in different cities around Kecskemét.
The pictures show just a small part of the musicians as I was there only for half day.

Soulshine Voices Band

A surprising band for Crazy Rhythm Challenge.
Why surprising? As they play gospel / soul music and not swing music. So many times the audience was not dancing couple dances but was watching the band, clapping, jumping, waving. Did it work? Yeah, we had fun!

Ray Collins’ Hot Club

One of the higlight of Rock That Swing festival was the concert of Ray Collins’ Hot Club.
From www.jumpingfrom6to6.com: “The Ray Collins’ Hot Club, a german bunch of wild guys which signed their first album in 2001 -“Shaking That Boogie”- and which since became a reference. Imagine a band which could play to perfection a mixture of 40 and 50′ s Jump-blues, swing, jive and of rock’ roll with authenticity and an overflowing energy while developing their own style and composing some solid songs. A band which could set a ballroom on fire with only the first bars of a brass section.”
What I can tell you guys: it is true!

Live music for dancers

One of the specialty of Rock That Swing is the high number of live band.
Originally people danced swing strictly for live music. Nowadays we mostly dance for DJs music selection however the main reason is that we are short of money :(
Rock That Swing festival provides sometimes 4 live bands during one night!
As the event is focusing on dance the lighting was not as special as on concerts still many times it was fine to give the picture the live music feeling!
On these pictures you can see: Jive Romeros; Safe, Sane & Single; Jump 4 Joy

Making perfect imperfect

Having only one of these photos I would feel that is perfect!
As I have for different version I feel I have 4 really good pictures – but no perfect.
I love the lighting of one of them, the other has a great composition, the third has amazing facial expression. Want them all together! Which one do you prefer?

It is all about…

…the guitar.
At least if someone ask a picture that “sounds” rock music my first trial would be a photo of a guitar player.
Here you can find more than one trial. Still from the same event.
